Junior Championships

Each year, in May, the Junior Country Championships is held in Melbourne where regional associations compete to be crowned the JCC Winner. Teams are fielded in u14, u16 & u18 age groups with players nominating from just the Hockey South West clubs.

The JCC is our kids opportunity to start their representative journey by playing for Hockey South West in that competition.

After the JCC comes the Junior State Championships, where you are representing the South West Region and playing with others from across the Ballarat, Camperdown, Portland and Hamilton associations. After trials in April, teams are named, and the competition takes place in in June/July school holidays. Teams in u12, u14, u16 & u18 are selected from across the region.

Hockey5s & Under 12s

The development of the core skills at an early age is vital to the future enjoyment of hockey. This allows for those who want to just have fun, have fun. It also means that those who want to take their hockey to the top level have the chance to build those skills.

Hockey South West started the hockey5s journey in Victoria during the 2023 recovery after Covid, and continues to be a shinning light in the Hockey5s crown.

u14 & u16

Building on relationships, developing skills and bringing friends into Hockey is a big part of the u14 & u16 hockey story. With a family friendly environment, it is here we encourage parents and families to get involved, help out with just 1 job and enjoy a safe place to have fun, make friend's and play hockey.

We introduce representative hockey at the Association & Regional level and give everyone a chance to advance their skills and learning. This includes for our Umpires, coaches and Team Managers alike,
